The Human Rights Center (HRC) at UC Berkeley applies science, technology, and law in the pursuit of justice and accountability. HRC conducts research, builds legal cases, and trains students and human rights practitioners in investigation skills. Through innovative partnerships, HRC investigates violations of international human rights and humanitarian law, works to hold perpetrators to account, and secures justice for survivors. HRC and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights recently published the Berkeley Protocol on Digital Open Source Investigations, which sets international standards for using digital methods to investigate serious international crimes. HRC is also working at the intersection of health and human rights to develop youth-led programs to prevent child marriage in humanitarian contexts, and help protect foster youth in the San Francisco Bay Area who are at risk of commercial sexual exploitation. Visit humanrights.berkeley.edu to learn more about HRC and how to support HRC’s programs.
