Our Children’s Trust was founded in 2010 on the idea that courts are vital to democracy and empowered to protect our children and the planet. Without a stable climate system, every natural resource we rely upon to exercise our basic rights—life, liberty, home, happiness—is under threat.
This summer we won the first ever constitutional climate case to go to trial in the United States, Held v. State of Montana. The world watched as youth plaintiffs and renowned scientific experts testified how the climate crisis harmed Montana’s young people.
Climate change exacerbates all the world’s most grave human rights challenges: conflict, involuntary migration, poverty and global health. Powering Youth Climate Justice—our 2023 Impact Report—is the story of youth rising up to ask prior generations hard questions: How can fundamental rights mean anything without clean air, water, and land? What is a human right without a livable planet? Visit ourchildrenstrust.org and support the youth who are holding their governments accountable and demanding climate justice.
